INGESTED OR INHALED THIS TOXIC SUBSTANCE CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS.
Fossil fuels, industrial equipment, and the prior use of lead paint may expose us to the hazards of lead. Factory processes or the remodeling of older buildings in the Savannah area may release lead into the environment. Lead particles released into the air may travel a great distance before settling into the soil and possibly filtering down into the groundwater.
HEALTH RISKS DUE TO EXPOSURE TO LEAD
Children are most at risk for lead poisoning. Their bodies absorb lead at a higher rate than adults and children are more likely to ingest greater quantities of lead. Children may put Items that contain lead or that have been contaminated by lead in their mouths.
Exposure to lead can also cause a number of health problems for adults. High blood pressure, reproductive issues, and hypertension are just a few of the issues faced by adults that have been exposed to lead. Pregnant women may develop high blood pressure and preeclampsia
Common Health Concerns in Children
- Slowed growth
- Hearing problems

- Behavioral problems
WHAT IF LEAD IS FOUND?
Removal of lead paint from your structure should be left to a trained professional. There are a few steps you can take until the lead source is removed to reduce your exposure. Keep surfaces free of dust and remove paint chips with a damp sponge or paper towel. Using a vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter or “high efficiency bag” when cleaning carpets will help minimize the circulation of lead dust. If lead is found in soil near your building planting grass may help contain the contaminated soil until it can be removed.
