Stucco

THERE COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM LURKING BEHIND THAT STUCCO FACADE.

Stucco can be an attractive and weather resistant wall covering if applied and maintained correctly. A wealth of problems can result if the stucco is damaged or incorrectly sealed. Trapped moisture can collect in the cavities of framing or exterior walls and lead to structural damage. Mold can grow and eat away at load bearing studs and even infest a structure. Walls could buckle due to the damage caused by moisture intrusion.

In the early 2000s, during the building boom, buildings were going up as quickly as possible. Builders in a rush to complete structures took short cuts. Improperly applied stucco was one of the shortcuts. Entire communities were affected by these shortcuts and are currently dealing with the results. The Savannah area wasn’t spared.

Dark streaks were mold is growing may be a possible sign of moisture intrusion in stucco. Power washing these stains may only force more moisture into the structure. Painting over these stains and ignoring the problem could lead to disaster. Having the structure inspected prior to the completion of purchase could save you thousands of dollars.
